Giving people the space they need to do whatever is important for them in the world. This is a starting point that makes Rebel a polyvalent business with a broad orientation. Something we are proud of.
Our adventure
On July 1st, 2002, ten of us started our big adventure. Having ‘grown up’ in a well-established consultancy firm in Rotterdam, we wanted to go our own way, at the interface between public and private worlds, because that is where our heart is, where social values and private entrepreneurship meet. We aim at bringing about a positive change in the world by acting not only as advisors, but also as developers, by investing personally in project and by actually achieving them.
With an entrepreneurial spirit
The way in which we expanded in the ensuing years, organically and with a focus on custom-tailored work, fits in this broad orientation. Wherever we see opportunities for change and improvement, we set up a new business, always on the basis of a trust relationship with the initiating entrepreneur. If someone has a great idea and wants to bind his or her future to the success of a new venture, then we are there to help them and take part in this venture.
With a Rebel attitude
This trusting relationship runs like a thread through our whole business. We want to work in an informal manner, rejecting hierarchy and red tape. Therefore, we don’t structure for the sake of structuring – a structure must be supportive and not an obstacle. We do realize that this can cause tensions. We are obviously not infallible, and very often our search is like a quest for the holy grail, but it remains our starting point, our vision, and we are perfectly happy with the results for now.
Advising, investing and achieving
Ten year after its constitution, Rebel is still an inspiring bunch of people who excel on the markets where we are active. The parent company, RebelGroup, has participations in seven companies, employing more than 75 people in all. We have businesses in the Netherlands, Belgium and Germany. We are advisors to public administrations and private companies alike (RebelGroup Advisory Nederland, RebelGroup Advisory België, RebelGroup Advisory Deutschland and RebelGroup International with an extensive network in Africa, the Americas and South-East Asia). We invest in businesses that have a similar mission (Rebel Valley and InReturn). We practice change management and achieve projects (RebelGroup Executives). Finally, we assist corporations in shaping their finances (Rebel Capital) and we organise in-company training on financial and economic issues (Rebel Academy). We firmly intend to expand this solid basis even more over the next decade.
